  been a Buddhist practitioner for over 25 years and is a Lay Sensei and Pr
 eceptor in the White Plum Tradition of Zen Buddhism. He is a member of the
  White Plum Asanga and a member of the Lay Zen Teachers Association. Prior
  to studying under his teacher\, Jingen Sensei\, Kūhai was a longtime stu
 dent of Lama Phurbu Tashi Rinpoche. His teachings emphasize the commonalit
 ies between the various Buddhist schools while maintaining traditional Zen
